Bad company

It’s a good thing I’m alone today, because I don’t think I’d be very good company. Why?

A year ago yesterday, my niece passed away.
A year ago today, my eldest brother passed away.
My shoulder is hurting like mad, pain radiating down to my elbow.

So, my plan is to stay busy and pamper myself a little. On the agenda today is:

laundry (in progress)
housecleaning
harvesting what’s still valiantly producing in the garden
freeze harvested okra
blog (in progress)
3 rounds of exercise on my shoulder (1 down, 2 to go). Yep. Even with it hurting. Gotta keep it working.
Doing some promo
Start a plan for reorganizing the kitchen, which basically means find a place for all the canned goods so I can see my countertops again!
Plant mums along the front walkway.

and the pamper part?

Get at least an hour of poolside time in – perhaps the most important item on this list today, IMO. 😉

On the writing front, Phantoms & Fantasies has a new blurb! I’m excited because my CP’s say it’s a definite improvement and I think it sells the book better. Here’s what I came up with:

After a devastating trauma, Zeenie attended a college mixer and experienced powerful Crainesian pheromones between herself and Turk. Unprepared for the life-mate call, she panicked and fled. Turk has waited and yearned for Zeenie for years while staying dialed in to her recovery. Finally, rumor says she’s ready to date again, and he’s determined to make her short list, even if it means resorting to a little trickery.

Zeenie’s plan is to ease back into the world of dating, not dive in heart first. Especially not with the hunk who’s supposedly bedded half the women in Dallas since she rejected him. On a blind date, he surprises her with patience and maturity when she fights against their pheromone bond, then shows tenderness and consideration when phantoms of her past arise.

As she learns more about Turk, Zeenie entertains heated fantasies of what could be and makes tentative forays into his sensual world. But her initial rejection broke with Crainesian custom and continues to cast a dark shadow on their future. Can she embrace her sexuality and summon enough courage to claim her man in true Crainesian style, or will their growing love be tainted forever?

Whadaya think?

BTW, if you haven’t read P&F yet, it’s on sale for $0.99 through tomorrow at midnight on Smashwords in a variety of file types. That’s a great deal at 67% off the regular price! Feel free to spread the word.

  1. Randy says:

Awwwww…..a year. It’s so tough. I know. People told me the second year is even harder and I didn’t pay much attention, but in some ways it is because you discover that you endured the first year by numbing yourself, pushing grief aside, and “just getting through.” Sometimes the true hurt comes later. Maybe it won’t be the same for you, but consider it a gentle warning to continue tending to your own emotional needs. Meanwhile, congrats on the new blurb–I’m sure it will draw in lots of sales! (And personally? I think there needs to be a bit more PAMPERING on that list!!!)

    • I think it difficult too, because the anniversary serves as a reminder of all the time you’re missing with that person. Look at me sideways these days and I burst into tears. Thanks for commisserating with me.

  2. Hey Carol! I’m really sorry you are feeling down. My heart goes out to you. That is a lot to have happen and I can’t even begin to know how you are feeling right now. I send you lots of cyber hugs. 🙂

LOVE the new blurb. This is a great book and I think this new blurb helps describe the story a LOT better. Hope you got lots marked off your list and that you had a really good pampering session.

    • I didn’t get as much marked off my list as I thought, but I’m plugging along. 🙂

Thanks for the hugs and blurb comments. It’s good to hear from someone who has read it that it fits better.
