Meeting goals and making progress

Blogging hasn’t been high on my list of priorities lately. Has anyone noticed? * sigh * I didn’t think so. That’s okay. I’m going to use a variant of the Field of Dreams mantra. Write it, and they will read… eventually–or something like that.

I did finally make it to “The End” of Return to Paradise, but the last half just didn’t feel right. Something kept telling me I just didn’t have it quite right. Then over the weekend a light bulb moment had me scrambling for paper and pencil. More revisions, which isn’t so bad. I kind of like revising. My revelation will give the reader a lot more sympathy for the heroine. With this, she can get away with more, and the HEA will have more impact. This makes me happy.

This weekend I attended my local RWA chapter’s annual C-Mas potluck. During the festivities, we handed a microphone around and everyone stood up and told what writing goals they’d met this year. As I sat there, trying to remember all that had happened this year, I was amazed at the goals I had met.

  • Attend monthly GRW meetings, check (only missed 1 all year).
  • Enter GRW’s March workshop. check
  • Attend Moonlight and Magnolia’s conference. check
  • Write my 3rd book. Return To Paradise check
  • Enter the Maggie: check – big time! WON the short contemporary category with Return To Paradise. It was also awarded 2nd place in the Heart to Heart and garnered a partial request. Woo-hoo!

There were other, lesser ones that I didn’t mention at the meeting – like keeping my website updated, blogging more than in 2004 (like that was difficult – lol), volunteering in GRW and on-line groups, and entering other contests.

All in all, I had manuscripts final in 4 contests

Not too shabby, eh?

    >Hello, “Neighbor” – how nice to “meet” a fellow-writer so close by. I’d be interested to hear about writing groups and other resources in the area since I’m relatively new to the region (just moved back South after three years in the Mid-Atlantic region).CONGRATS! on all of the accomplishments, the Maggie, and putting the polish on the revisions . . . quite some accomplishments, indeed. You should definitely give yourself kudos on your great work! All the best for the upcoming holidays, and wishing you and yours a bright and prosporous New Year!
