Not even remotely romantic: Let’s Talk Feet

Soles of a Couple and Their ChildI’m betting ‘feet’ is a subject you won’t see much on a romance writer’s blog because (in my opinion) there’s not much about them that contributes to romance. But I’m not letting that stop me.

Toes, heels, ball, and arch. All are parts of the feet. Next come the ankles, a separate entity that’s not so separate. Some feet are unkempt and unsightly. Some are nicely pedicured, soft and flirty, but all can be stinky and are often dirty. After all, they’re situated on the floor and ground or sweltering in shoes most of the time.

I like to go barefoot a lot, even though I don’t believe my feet particularly cute or sexy. The truth is, shoes and I don’t get along extremely well, even though I’ve been known to don four-inch heels. I do prefer a nice pedicure with bright polish, but these days I’m not very happy with my get-me-where-I’m-going appendages. They’re a pain – quite literally. I’ve sought advice from family and friends, have added insoles to my shoes and even my house slippers. I’ve done stretching exercises with them, walked a lot, rested them, and still they ache as if I have perpetual stone bruises. One heel almost feels like there’s something pulling back as I walk.

Next step? Podiatrist. Any advice or ideas on what the problem is from my readers?

Have you had a checkup lately and a chat with your primary? To eliminate any possibles there? How about an old-fashioned foot bath laced with Epsom salts?

  2. I live in a small backwoods town, so my primary doc likes an illness to throw an Rx at, not a mystery. LOL I do have one of those gurgling foot baths, though. Good idea.

  3. I ended up off my feet for 4 days back in February because they hurt so bad I could hardly stand it (talk about a non-romantic Valentine’s Day!). My doc couldn’t find a reason for the pain, but did prescribe Neurontin (sp?) + ice packs, and recommended . . . NO MORE CHEAP SHOES. I went and splurged on a pair of Danskos and have had very little problem with my feet. I highly recommend them – you might try wearing a good quality shoe all the time and see how your feet feel.

Oh, and those gurgling foot baths are so nice . . . especially if you add lavender scented salts!
