>This-n-That

>I’m dashing off this post and playing catch-up today. Let’s see, I think the last update was announcing the move and house preparations. Those are done and the house is on the market. Hubby and I took a quick trip to Oahu. Actually, he had a conference there and I went with. We got to see good friends and it seemed like all we did was have cocktails and dinner everywhere we went. Great times, but I’ll post pix and more about it next week. I even managed to get some shopping in while in Honolulu, which I needed to do for this weekend – the Moonlight & Magnolias Conference here in Atlanta. I’m off to that later this afternoon, back Sunday.

Good news on the writing front: A friend and fellow RWA chapter mate, Beverley Kendall has SOLD to Kensington!!!

CONGRATULATIONS, Bev!!!!

She’s talking about it at the Romance Roundtable. Go congratulate her.

Gotta run, but will be back blogging next week. Y’all have a great weekend!

>Wednesday’s Word: pundit Wat’s it mean?

>I often hear the word pundit bandied about on television during an election year. I had a vague idea that it meant an authority on a subject and thought maybe it applied only to politics. Close, but no cigar!

Pundit \PUNdit\ (noun)

MSWORD’s definition:
1. somebody who expresses opinion: a critic or authority on a subject, especially in the media
2. somebody wise: somebody with knowledge and wisdom
3. Same as pandit (Indian religion)*

M-W’s Word Central:
1 : a learned man : teacher
2 : a person who gives opinions in an authoritative manner usually through the mass media : critic

So any authority on a subject could be called a pundit. For instance, an author might be a pundit on writing or a zookeeper on the care of exotic animals. Now let’s use it in a few sentences:

The zoology pundits expounded on the merits of clean cages for nearly an hour.

Political pundits are in abundance during an election year.

Having offered his lengthy and passionate position on global warming, the pundit was surprised to find he was preaching to the choir.

* Hindu word meaning ‘wise’ or ‘learned’

>Moving, Chores, and so it goes…

>I had planned to post this on Sunday, but I lost internet service for about 5 days. Bet you didn’t even notice, did you?

My posts may be sparce over the next few weeks as I complete a myriad of chores. Due to the hubby’s career advancement, we’re moving to the Washington D.C. area and I need to get the house ready to list for sale. Yes, me, since hubby is already on the job there. Suffice it to say the items on my To-Do List are multiplying at the same rate as rabbits and guppies.

No, I’m not looking forward to the move even if the gov’t does do the heavy lifting. Been there, done that enough times that the lustre of a new place is tempered by the knowledge of all that must be completed before I can enjoy it. In addition, this will be our second move to the DC area. This time we are sans kids, so I expect this experience will be quite different.

My writing is what is suffering right now…as in it’s non-existent. I don’t seem to have any energy left after the daily grind. Ah well, this too shall pass, right? RIGHT?
