Chicken or the Egg kinda thing

In my first WIP, I had a couple critiques where a certain plot line was questioned. Would a lawyer really advise someone to get married just to increase their chances of retaining custody of a child? Would it increase their chances? I thought so, and stuck to my plot.

A couple weeks ago, a friend mentioned that her daughter’s fiancé was in a custody battle, fighting to keep custody of his little girl. His lawyer had recommended they speed up their wedding plans ASAP so they represented a whole family unit before going to court.

No wonder readers are willing to suspend belief in category romance plots. They’re imitating life. Or life is imitating… hmmm.
