So here’s how the last round of submissions is going…

  • “Marinara Magic” to Woman’s World on 9/8/04 – form Rejection, & a bad copy at that.
  • “Home for Christmas” to Arabella on 9/8/04 – no response yet.
  • “Homecoming” to Adam’s Media on 9/10/04 – ACCEPTED for The Rocking Chair Reader anthology, Fall, 2005
  • “Winter’s Bride” to Brown County Writer’s Group’s Frosted Pane edition – no response yet.

Not too bad, although I’d have probably had a heart attack if Woman’s World had accepted.

Such is the life of a writer. Lots of patience needed. Lots of rejection, and we struggle to remember it’s not necessarily the quality of the writing since a lot of things factor into the big “R”.

Well, I’ve got a party to plan, Christmas decorations to put up and a host of writing tasks that need my attention. Somewhere in there, I need to grab a few hours of sleep too.

So long, and come back soon!

Getting started

Yesterday was my DH’s birthday and I got a gift. Weird, huh? Late in the day, an e-mail arrived from Kathryn Struck of HeatWaveRomance (a division of Awe-Struck E-Books Inc.). She said their editor “said a resounding ‘yes’ ” to my short story “Insight” and wanted to know if it was still available.

Woo-hoo!!

Okay, I confess. I got a little excited, told my DH and my mom – who’s staying with us for a few weeks – and shot off an e-mail to, oh, a couple dozen friends.Tonight I’ve printed off the contract and have confirmed that HWR is looking to offer an anthology of “Tingles”, as they call their erotic short stories, sometime in the summer and “Insight” will be included. I can’t wait to see what the process of being e-pubbed is like.

New happenings

Let’s see… last post was on Oct. 7th. At the end of that day I received a congratulatory e-mail from Helen Polaski, Editor for Adam’s Media’s The Rocking Chair Reader. My short story, “Homecoming” has been selected for inclusion in The Rocking Chair Reader: The Gathering, which will be released in the fall of 2005.

I’m thrilled. My very first ever sale!!!!

On the 12th, I rec’d the contract, scruntinized it carefully for a couple days, signed and sent it back. Edits have already been rec’d and approved.

Hopefully, this will only be the beginning of many acceptances.

Oct. 18 – Woman’s World passed on my short story “Marinara Magic”, so I’m looking for it a new home. I knew that one was a long shot, with as many submissions as they get, but it was worth a try.

More later…
